Salinas
Doris (Landrum) Rossi, 98, peacefully passed away September 11, 2021, at her home in Salinas surrounded by her devoted daughters and caregiver. She was born June 24, 1923, in San Francisco, CA. Doris (Dee) was happily married to the late Rinaldo (Al) Rossi for 68 years.
Doris is survived by her three daughters, Nancy (Loren) King, Linda (Vic) Rossi, and Paula (Roger) La Fountain. She is the cherished grandmother of Chris (Stefania) King, Michael (Autumn) Rossi, Dominic (Nikki) Rossi, Victoria (Jerome) Carlisle, Jameson (Lorah) Lucero, and Austin (Amy) Lucero. Step-grandmother to Nicholas (Melissa) La Fountain and Ashley (Adam) Fuoss.
We are so thankful for Mom's loving caregiver, Latu. She cared for Mom for over three years and they became best friends.
Doris loved spending time with her daughters. Among the many things she shared with them was gathering often to cook old family recipes like spaghetti sauce and baking biscotti at Christmas time. But the most enjoyable times were when the four of them went shopping and then completed the day with a delightful dinner.
Being together as a family was important to "Monnie" and Papa. Most memorable are the wonderful, fun-filled trips to Italy and France which included the entire family, children, spouses, grandchildren.
Her grandchildren fondly remember being picked up from school by Monnie. There was always a tasty treat waiting for them.
Doris had a deep faith in God. For many years she attended daily noon mass. Her faith sustained her in the last months of her life.
One grandchild, speaking for the others, in the weeks prior to her death wrote to Monnie, "You are the core and heart of a huge family. You were always someone who looked out for the best for her family, whether it was the deep love and care you showed to Papa or the way you welcomed new family members with open arms. The lifelong memories that you created with family get-togethers and trips to Italy will be cherished stories that we share with our children. God bless you for these and ten thousand more things. You are loved."
In keeping with her wishes, funeral services are private. Those wishing to honor her life can donate in her name to VNA Hospice, 5 Lower Ragsdale Dr., Monterey, CA 93940.
