Hazel Louise McPherson was the third child born to the late June Matthews and Louise Jones Matthews. She was born in New York City, New York on July 21, 1934. After the death of her mother at age 16, she was raised by her aunt, Mary P. Lilly. She departed this life Monday at 12:01 a.m., September 27, 2005. She attended and graduated in 1952 from the public school system in New York. After graduation, she attended a Vocational Nursing School in New York and received her license as a practical licensed nurse in 1954. Upon arriving in California, she challenged the State of California for her license and begin her nursing career in California and worked for over twenty five years in the health care profession. Hazel's travel's took her to Germany, Italy, and Greece and back to California. She was baptized at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in 1964 by Rev. H. H. Lusk. She has been a faithful member at New Hope Baptist Church since 1996 and a member of the Nurses' Guild, Paige Circle, and the Mission Choir. She became a member of the Kismet Temple #966 on September 18, 1988, Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks (I.B.P.O.E) of the World . She served as Chaplain of Kismet Temple. Head Nurse of the 7th Regiment Nursing Unit, Antler Guard Department. Member of Ruby J. Salvant Council, Maggie Field Council, Teddy Borum camp site club #140 and received her Pacific State Association (P.S.A.) honors in 2003. She served as president of the M.W.M. Shrine Fex Club. Also a member of theNurses' Guild, Paige Circle, and the Mission Choir. Also a member of the Monterey Moose Lodge #630, Monterey, Ca. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dempster E. McPherson, and son, John Jones. She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters and two sons, Hazel Ann (Willie), Anthony (Christina), Jonathan, Cynthia (lacques fiance), Andrea Cames fiance) and 12 grandchildren: Veronica, Nicole, Brian, Antonio, Crystal, Michael, Christopher, Anthony Jr., Brett, Caree, Stephanie, Felix II, and 8 great grand children. Siblings: Ann, Kathy, Vera, Arthur, William, Leroy and Brother with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
