Kathleen Mast Obituary

Kathleen “Kitty” H. Mast
February 4, 1929 ~ March 5, 2005
Monterey – Kitty Mast, age 76, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on March 5, 2005. Kitty was born to Henry and Mabel Harrelson in Norfolk, VA and grew up in Gresham, SC. Kitty met her future husband, Robert L. Mast, in 1949 while working at the DMV in Alexandria, VA. They were married in 1952. Kitty was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother to her five children and six grandkids. They moved to Marina permanently in 1970, after Bob retired from the Army. Kitty worked for a local dental office prior to receiving her Real Estate license where she then worked in the family business with Bob and two of her sons until she retired in 1992. Kitty enjoyed participating in numerous political and community activities, served on the Monterey County Grand Jury in 1983, and was very involved with the PTA while her kids were growing up. Her favorite time of year was Christmas. She was an avid collector of the snow village and loved decorating for the holidays. Kitty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert L. Mast; her five children: Michael, Charles, Steve, Mark, and Robin; her 6 grandchildren that she loved dearly: Jared, Lauren, Jeffrey, Brett, Kelly, and Amanda; other family members: Tammy, Konnie, and Lisa; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved puppies Gizmo & Michelle. We would also like to thank Merly for taking such good care of our mom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mabel Harrelson; her sisters Francis, Margaret, Abby, Mildred; and her brother Frank. Visitation will be held at the Mission Mortuary in Monterey on Thursday, March 10th, from 4–7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Marina United Methodist Church, on Friday, March 11th 11:00 a.m., followed by graveside services at Monterey City Cemetery. Kitty requested that any donations be made to the SPCA.

You saved my mother, Kitty, and for that I give eternal thanks. Your heart was big, some might say too big. We love you for all you gave, not only to us, but, we know, to everyone with whom you came in contact. You are with us daily. Dwight & Catherine
