Richard W. Soell
~ 2012 ~

CARMEL - Richard W. Soell, a long-time resident and one-time owner of Jack London's Bar & Grill, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 in San Diego, where he has lived for the past five years. He was 76.
Soell is a co-founder of Gibbs & Soell, Inc., now the country's largest independent public relations firm not affiliated with an advertising agency,
After working with two smaller advertising and public relations agencies in Akron/Canton, Ohio, Soell spent four years in New York City with Burson-Marsteller, now the world's largest public relations firm. He and his partner founded Gibbs & Soell, Inc. in 1971. He sold his interest in the firm in 1981 and lived in Carmel for 16 years before moving to San Diego.
A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, he also worked as a newspaper reporter for the Topeka Capital-Journal and the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie; his son, Stephen of Denver, Colorado; and two daughters, Susan Carrington of Dallas, and Sarah Anne of Carmel.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 11:30am Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the United Church at the Lake, San Marino, CA.
