Sandra Skeen Obituary

Sandra Marie "Sandy" Skeen May 2, 1938 - November 20, 2004 MARINA - Born Sandra Marie Meroth on May 2,1938. Sandy was a loving mother and leader in her community. She was born in Boston, MA but spent the last 37 years living and making a home in Marina, CA when the family was transferred there in 1967 by the US Navy. She had three beautiful daughters, Michelle, Kelleen, Raylyn and a very special granddaughter Taylor-Dawn. Becoming a grandmother was one of the most joyous times of her life. She was involved in many aspects of the community while raising three daughters and having a husband whom was often overseas. She was part of her daughter's lives by working part time at J. C. Crumpton in the office and then as a PE instructor. She was involved in organizations such as the Brownies, Girl Scouts as well as the PTA. She was also a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Monterey Cypress #694 for 18 years. When Marina grew from a town into an incorporated city, she was Mayor Pro-Tem of the first city council in 1975. It was one of her finest accomplishments and greatest successes. We were all very proud of her. Over the years to follow, she worked various jobs and always gave 110 percent of herself to whatever position she held. She was a very strong and ethical woman who gave much of herself to her work and family. Sadly she recently retired and was in the beginning stages of planning the rest of her life. She was always quick with a genuine smile and enthusiastic laugh. If there were music being played, she'd look around to grab a partner and begin shaking her hips. Her illness came without warning. Sandy's family and friends are still in shock how rapidly the unknown cancer took her. Sandy passed away at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, on November 20, 2004; she was 66. She is survived by her daughters Michelle Beck, Kelleen Hoffman, and Raylyn Skeen and her granddaughter Taylor-Dawn Beck. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday; November 27 at I 1:00am; Healey's Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Rd. in Salinas. A celebration of her life will follow. At the family's request, donations may be made in Mrs. Skeen's name to the American Cancer Society. We will miss you deeply. We love you greatly.
