Sr. Ocd Obituary

Sr. Francisca of the Holy Spirit, ocd
Sept. 21, 1918 - May 29, 2015
Carmel, California
Sr. Francisca died at the Carmelite Monastery in Carmel, California. She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1918 and was baptized Kathlyn Agnes Hardy. The family moved to Evanston, Illinois where she attended local schools. Moving to California in 1935, she graduated from Beverly Hills High School and took special courses at U.C.L.A. until she joined the staff of Modern Screen Magazine.
During WWII, she did volunteer for the Red Cross, organizing groups of entertainers who donated their services, giving programs several times a week for veterans at local military hospitals.
Toward the end of WWII, Sister was asked to take charge of the public relations at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco. After the war, she worked for several years for the Franciscan Fathers of the Province of Santa Barbara, managing public relations for the diocesan hearings of the canonization Cause of Blessed Junipero Serra. Sister was thankful that her prayers and labors for the Cause were answered when we learned that Blessed Serra will be canonized in September this year. After the material for his Cause was forwarded to Rome in 1951, Sister entered the local Carmelite Monastery where she served as prioress, sub-prioress, councilor and in many other different capacities throughout her 64 years as a religious. Sister Francisca made her Solemn Vows as a Carmelite Nun in 1955.
Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for her soul at the Monastery on June 2 at 10:30.

I will keep you in our prayers as well....
You are forever in my heart and I will never forget your special smile.
I remember the times when we would bring special food to you and all the sisters over the years..... it was a special time when we would come visit... I love the Chapel as it was so quiet and peaceful with the simple chairs ... I would spend quiet times alone after Mass each time I would visit.
I will miss your simple smile and soft voice... God Bless you for all the years you have spent in Religious Life and on a Hill so peaceful overlooking the ocean.... a peaceful place where I can find peace within my heart.

Her laugh, love of life and acceptance of everybody will be what I remember the most.
My most enduring moment with Sister is standing on the roof of the monastary watching the sunseting over the ocean.
