In 2007, Steve received The Iron Butt Association Certificate and was dedicated to safe, long-distance motorcycle endurance riding.
Steve was a member of IBEW Local 234 and a Lifetime Member of NRA. He served as treasurer of Mo.Co. Friends of NRA, Westside FNRA committee

Growing up in the 1980's on the central coast was a blast. Everyday of our youths was so cliche' almost like one of the popular movies of the era. Steve, we lived our youth 100%, racing down ski slopes, battling it out on the tennis courts, racing BMW cars, etc. While I moved from Salinas many years ago, when word of this tragedy reached me, it punched a hole in my heart and I have shed some damn big tears old friend. It sounds like you made the transition into adulthood just fine, no small feat for any of our old gang, lol...I feel bad for Mamma Pyb and Gary, who I remember fondly as well. I hope to see you again one day in heaven old friend and we can share stories from our youth. Until then, every time I mash the gas pedal on a sports car or twist the throttle on the Harley, I will smile a little bit for you too, Old Friend...

To Steve...You were my warrior on many fronts. Your passion and patriotism were never yielding. You loved life deeply. I wish I could have told you more how I envied that and how proud I was of you. From your crazy reckless youth to the man you stood as the day you left us.

You will be missed my friend.

To Steve's family, my heart goes out to you. Please remember that his time with us was very rich in experiences, full of passion, and always at its fullest. Steve had such an impact on many and in God's plan his impact will continue to inspire us for the rest of our lives.

To Chris...I struggle with you. I'm at a loss for words. I just pray for God's hand, his gentle touch, his surrounding love to calm your pain and assure you of His purpose. Jen and I will always be close and celebrate his life with you.

With Love… -Chip

My heart and prayers go out to Steve’s family. There was a group of us who spent allot of time when we were younger (Keith Roberti, Mike Sicoli, Dave Knopf, Mark Long, John Westphal, Chip Hancock, Jay Galster) hanging out, listening to music, going to concerts, partying, just being young and having fun. Steve was a great man, and a good friend, one of the easiest going guys that I have ever known, what a tragic end, a great loss. God Speed to you Dude, you will be missed, but never forgotten.

My heartfelt sorrow goes out to the entire family. Steve was full of life and allways upbeat. I just saw him a few weeks ago having lunch at Rosita's. He had a lot of things working for him and was excited about his new home in Oklahoma. I hope your family finds peace and comfort in the special memories you have with Steve.
