Vincent Interrante Obituary

MARINA, CA – Vincent Interrante, a mail carrier for 33+ years in Pacific Grove, California, died on June 5, 2014 at his home with family around him. Vince was born the fifth of six children to Charles and Josephine Interrante in Norristown, PA. His parents and all his brothers and sisters preceded him in death, as well as two grandsons and one great grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenice; as well as three children, Linda Contreras (Frank) of Coarsegold, CA, Laura Alfonso (Joe) of Salinas, and Lee Interrante of Salinas. He leaves eight living grandchildren, ten living great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Vince joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served on the U.S.S. Bausell off the coast of South Korea. Later he would serve two tours in Vietnam and other stations here and abroad such as: Alaska, Japan, New Brunswick, Canada, New Jersey, Hawaii, Nebraska, Rome, Italy, Port Hueneme, CA and finally here in Marina. He retired from the Navy at the Post Graduate School in 1978 after 27 ½ years of service.
After retiring from the Navy he soon joined the USPS in Pacific Grove where he worked as a carrier until his retirement in 2012. He loved his work and his patrons and felt like family to many of those same patrons. He loved spending time with his family and most especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren (going to ball games and all activities). He said they kept him young.
Vince was very active in his church, serving as an elder/minister. He was always teaching a Bible Study and absolutely loved the Sundays he was able to preach. He preached at the Hollister and the San Martin Church of Christ for many years and served in a rotation of Church Elders at his church home of Crossroads Christian Church.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 1:30pm at Crossroads Christian Church located at 1035 Rogge Road in Salinas, CA. In lieu of flowers you may donate to his home Church Missionaries at Crossroads Christian Church who are currently in Haiti.

I met Vince as a teenager at church. He always had a smile on his face. Every time I showed up. He be one of first people to greet and ask how I was. My heart goes out to the family. I am glad that I have met him and he will be missed.

I would talk to Vince when he was delivering mail in Pacific Grove. Always happy and positively energetic. I would also see Vince in the Monterey Sports Center running so hard on the treadmill that I asked him why he was running so hard ? "I was in the hospital for heart surgery" he said "and I never want to go back."

A wonderful man who is a positive inspiration in my life.

Thank you Vince.

I look forward to seeing you again!

I'll always have fond memories of Vince walking the streets of PG and delivering smiles to the patrons who were lucky enough to have him as their letter carrier. He was quite the "Postal Ambassador" and the epitome of a loyal civil servant. His was, and is, the greatest generation.

I only just heard of Vince's passing and wanted to pass along my condolences to his wife and family. We lived on his mail route and, on those occasions when my husband or I were home when Vince delivered the mail, he would always have a cheerful greeting, a kind word and would inquire as to how we were doing. Since I'm a calligrapher and send and receive mail addressed in calligraphy, Vince would often remark on it and seemed to enjoy it as much as I did. He was a truly lovely person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. With love and fond remembrance of Vince, Cyndi Fox & David Markowitz

Grandad you truly lived an amazing life, a good, Christian life devoted to your God, family, friends, coworkers, patrons amd pretty much anyone you came in contact with! You left a legacy for your family. A goal of what we should make and want our life to be. You made so many memories for me and you included my husband and my children with many more memorable moments! You were more than a grandfather to me and I know you are in heaven enjoying your beautiful singing voice and brand new body. Your body was tired but your energy and motivation never stopped, "I can only imagine" what you are doing in your new beautiful place, watching down on us.

Dear Family,
I worked in PG for Children's Services Center, now Kinship Center, we were right next to the Fire Dept from 1988 to the early 1990's. I've never ever forgotten Vince. He was the sweetest man alive. I remember he had a heart attack and a bypass right around the time we worked there, but he didn't let it slow him down. Obviously all that walking kept him healthy and active for a long time, although not long enough. Vince was a gift to the world. The picture you posted is exactly how I remember him, that smile lit up a room! I am so very sorry for your loss.

I LOVED Vince (or as I called him - Vincenzo). Not a mean bone in his body. A smile that surrounded him and others could bask in. He was MY letter carrier for many years and, long after I moved away, whenever I would see him, his smile never dimmed.

Vincenzo - kick up your feet and enjoy your new found Joy. You are a wonderful Human.
