I don't know what made me look you up tonight - perhaps hireath- as I am writing my autobiography. Such a long time ago when you and I were skipping school to be together. I still have the platinum ring you gave me. You always were such a compelling actor even then so young. It looks like you left England one year before I did. I am glad you had so much success and so many friends and fans. I hope you are entertaining the angels with stellar performances!

Barry, you were without doubt the greatest teacher and director I have ever known. You inspired awe and a not small amount of fear in me. You pushed, cajoled, and challenged me when you cast me as Feste in NCSA's production of Twelfth Night, until I had a breakthrough and was able to revel in that amazing part! I was just mesmerized by your voice, intellect, and flamBOYance! Especially when you dressed in ALL scarlet, green, white, or black. These were indicative of your "humours"----- we were TERRIFIED of you on the days you wore black!!! You directed the greatest most beautiful production of A Midsummer Nights Dream I have ever seen at NCSA. It has never been equaled in any othe production I have seen. May you rest in peace dear friend.

A great wit, a challenging intellect, and a slightly cantankerous drinking pal, Barry was an unforgettable part of my early years in America. RIP

To my first love … all those years ago … your first appearance on the stage with the National Youth Theatre in London … my first introduction to theatre in Dublin … rest in peace.

My condolences, Edmund. Your father and I worked together back at GLSF in 1982, and I will always remember him as a gentleman of great kindness, and generosity. Barry was always willing to mentor younger people, sharing his experiences and knowledge with anyone who wanted to learn- a rare and precious ability in any field, but truly noticeable in our industry. A star has been extinguished in the firmament- one that did not shine nearly long enough, but did shine so very brightly that it always drew the eye. I shall miss you, Barry.

When I look back upon my time at GLSF I always think of Barry. He always had time to share his passion and his wit with everyone in the company. I was in awe of his talent and his presence every time he took the stage. I will always remember him as a wonderful actor and more importantly, a beautiful human being. My sympathy to Edmund.

My sympathy to Edmund. I am an old friend of your mother's and knew your Dad some from meeting him at Great Lakes and McCarter (knew you as a youth). Barry had such dignity and passion. A void has been created. My warmest regards to you.

I forgot to send my sympathy to Edmund. I remember you as such a handsome, shining boy. I am sure you dont remember me, but we had a few chats...all of brief duration. My heart goes out to you. I lost my father years ago, he was waay too young. After pain, after loss, there is only love.

First, I remember the voice. Full of whiskey and training and the kind of fatigue that comes, sometimes, from a life well lived. Then the haughty wit, challenging you to top it. The FABULOUS hair! And the eyes...piercing and tired with a hint of a brogue. Finally at Peace Mr. Boys; I hope the road to heaven rose up to meet ya'!!! As for the devil? You'd give him a run for his money!!!

It is strange to think of the world without you. There are creaking sounds as it adjusts. Wherever you are checking in, the word is spreading, and arguments are breaking out, and women are swooning, and you are commanding the stage with your resonant voice and swashbuckling presence, silencing all argument in the end by the gorgeous result. I salute you. Only I cannot say farewell, since we are still arguing.

Oh my dear B2, now I understand why you've been silent these past weeks. So many rich memories shared, and per your recent comment that 'waking up every day is something "new"', you'll continue to greet the future as long as I'm here on this planet...as always, xox L2

Remembering Barry Boys, the man who influenced my life nearly as much as Job Sanders and Jo Mielziner. They are all gone now but their work lives on. I will forever remember Barry's voice. He made the Tempest one of my favorite works. Thank you Barry for being our mentor, our teacher and our favorite curmudgeon!

The gift Barry gave to me was in not only opening the door to truly understanding Shakespeare but pushing me harder and passionately to be more than I was as a young performer. His gift is alive in all of us fortunate enough to have known him. My thoughts go out to Edmund on the loss of his father. With Love and Respect, Kurt Yahjian

Even in the old days when performers were usually trained to be competitive rather than collaborative, Barry Boys as a teacher was more like a fellow student who was willing to share his time and talent with the rest of us. He suggested to me that performing Shakespeare was not a daunting dutiful ritual but an amusing puzzle. The difference was not necessarily any easier, but much more pleasant

Barry, you changed my life as a director giving me the chance to compose the music for the magnificent 1970 production of "Midsummer Night's Dream" at NCSA.
You were mentor to me and you became a dear friend, you touched so many and inspired so many lives in countless ways. I celebrate your life and great artistry. Michael Colina

And in my dreams I say to them, "I am the infinite sea, and all worlds are but grains of sand upon my shore."
Bless you on your trip, "from which no traveler ever returns"...we shall all be seeing you in time.
