Coach Joiner and Coach Bobby Wilson (Lanier) and Coach Charles Lee (when at Bellingrath) were effectively my fathers as I grew up in Montgomery in the turbulent 60s. I truly love them all. Coach Joiner was an insipring force in my life. Over the last 45 years since graduating from Lanier I have thought of him often, and always admiringly. I played on 2 of his basketball and his first football team as Head Coach. Those teams did not win championships, but his players were all winners to have been on his teams. Thank you Coach Joiner.

Ms. Joiner, your husband was my History teacher but every Friday during football season, he taught us "football".....a reason I have always loved the game because I understood it! He was one of my favorite teachers...he helped make my years at Lanier extra special. God Bless and thanks for sharing him with us. Ann Jones Guider (prev.Collins)

Dear Joyce, Allen and Leslie et al:
We are so sorry for your loss, but know you have wonderful memories of Bill and all the joys of family times. I remember his taking care of Sis at her time of need and riding those great, big green John Deere tractors.
We are among the sickies at this time so don't want to be the cause of it's spread.
But Dick and I do send our condolences to you all.

I came to know Coach (and the Joiner family) through Children's Harbor. I instantly thought of all of you as family. No one will ever truly know the impact that he had on the families that we serve here. He was the behind the scenes guy. Hardly ever seen but always taking care of people. My heart goes out to all of you as you mourn the loss of this great man. Love to all

I was lucky enough to manage the basketball team in 64 and 65. Coach Joiner was that special person who wanted you to
be your best as much as for you as for the team. Seldom a
harsh word you wanted to work at being your best to get that
soft quiet smile that was often your unstated reward. My memories of the team our championship year and all the
the hard work that went into that was put forth by the coaches and the players has always been very special to me.

I had just lost my son to sucide it was 2006 I had to drive to Montgomery to make a pickup from COACH. When I got there I just wanted to load up and leave.Mark came out and said jerry COACH wants to see you. He had me sit down and just spoke to me loveingly. He gave me time to gather myself. We talked about our faith and how we believe. You know I loved Bill Joiner.

"Coach" was one of the first dealers I ever worked with when I started as a sales rep nearly 20 years ago. With a constant cup of coffee in his hand, he was always one of the nicest, warmest, and amazing men I had the pleasure to work with...and he passed those traits on to everyone at Olympia. It was always a pleasure stopping in to see him--he will be missed. Allen, Leslie, and Mark...my prayers are with you & your family.

My Heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Joiner family. I played football for great coaches; Bear Bryant, John McKay and Bill Walsh to name a few. Coach Joiner was the coach who laid the solid foundation and provided the direction for me to build my career not only in college but the NFL, encompassing morals, standards and values. I will be eternally grateful for his guidance.

Coach Joiner was the most influential man in my adolescence. He exhorted our team to play with "courage, desire and effort" at every practice and in every game. Those watchwords have stood up throughout my life and I daresay the lives of all he influenced. He will be missed by more than he knew.
