LOEB, James Lucien wasborn on April 6, 1922, anddied February 4, 2010.James Loeb was a native ofMontgomery, and graduatedfrom the University of NorthCarolina. He was also aWorld War II veteran. James Loeb entered the cotton business in 1946 with WeilBrothers Cotton, Inc. andfounded Loeb & Company,Inc. in 1969. He retired in2007. He was committed to thewell-being of the Montgomery community and dedicated to civic life here.Historic preservation was a focus of his life. He foundedLandmarks Foundation, andwhat is now Old AlabamaTown, where he was presidentfor many years. Old AlabamaTown now has 50 buildings,including the Loeb EducationCenter, named after him. His other board involvementincluded: Past President, Atlantic Cotton Association,founding member and longtime board member ofFriends of the Alabama Archives, former member andPresident of the Chancellor'sAdvisory Board, Auburn Montgomery, Huntingdon CollegeBoard of Trustees, BoardMember, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, AdvisoryBoard of Trustees, NationalTrust for Historic Preservation,Past President, Temple BethOr, Past President, Montgomery Symphony Orchestra,and Past President, Landmarks Foundation, and PastPresident of the Jewish Federation of Montgomery. Awards received include theAlabama Historical Commission, Business Friends of theArts, and Montgomery Alabama Council on Aging. He is preceded in death byhis parents, Helen Weil Loeb,and Lucien S. Loeb. He is survived by his loving wife of 53years, Joan Byck Loeb, andtwo sisters, Eda Loeb Newhouse of Scarsdale, NY andKatherine Loeb Wiener ofJackson, MS; three daughters, Helen Ruth Loeb of Montgomery, Elizabeth Loeb Friedman (Glen) of Los Angeles,CA, Patricia Loeb Rosenbaum(Maurice) of Atlanta, GA.,and his son James LucienLoeb, Jr. (Carol) of Montgomery; and eight grandchildrenAndrew Friedman, JonathanFriedman, Jack Loeb, SarahClaire Loeb, and CatherineLoeb, Allison Rosenbaum, Michelle Rosenbaum, and Laura Rosenbaum. Visitation willbe at Temple Beth Or at 12:30on Sunday, February 7th,2010, followed by a 2:00PMservice. A family burial service will follow at OakwoodEternal Rest Cemetery. RabbiElliott Stevens will be officiating.
