John Henry LANEThe Rev. John H. Lane , 90, ofLineville, Alabama, diedMonday, April 13th at Brookwood Hospital in Birminghamfollowing a brief illness.Memorial services will beheld in Graceville, Florida atthe Graceville United Methodist Church, Friday, April 17th at2:00 with Bishop Paul Duffey.Dr Billy D. Gaither and TheRev. Dan Rhodes officiating.Internment will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery, Graceville, with Williams FuneralHome directing. He was preceded in death by his wife of66 years, Ruth CrutchfieldLane, who died in March2005. The family will receivefriends from 10:00 to 12:00 onFriday April 17th at the Williams Funeral Home, Graceville, Florida. In lieu of flowersmemorials may be made tothe Blue Lake John Lane Memorial Trust in care of the United Methodist Foundation, P.O. Box 122, Dothan AL 36302. The Rev. Lane was born November 14, 1918 to HenryWalker Lane and Lena Golden Lane, Galilee Community,Jackson Co., FL. He was agraduate of Graceville HighSchool, Hamline University, St.Paul MN, and Candler Schoolof Theology, Emory University,Atlanta, GA. He was a member of the Alabama-WestFlorida Conference of theUnited Methodist church serving as pastor, builder, andadministrator. He was the first minister appointed to the newly organized United MethodistChurch, Ft. Walton Beach, FL,where he led in the construction of the church's first facilities. Recognizing the growthpotential of the area, he organized the Shalimar UnitedMethodist Church, Shalimar,FL, holding services in a localdrive-in theater. He subsequently served churches inTuskegee, Foley, Mobile,Prattville and Monroeville, AL. Administratively, he servedas the first and fifth director ofthe Conference AssemblyGrounds at Blue Lake, Andalusia , AL, director of the Conference Program Council, director of the ConferenceCapital Funds Campaign, director of the Pensions Funding Campaign, the Homes forClaimaints, and District Superintendent of the Mariannaand Montgomery Districts. He retired to Dothan in 1984continuing to serve as a retired supply minister. Heserved as associate ministerof the First United MethodistChurch, Panama City, minister of the Midland City, BigCreek, Highland Park, Blountstown and Pinckard churchesas well as chaplain, WesleyManor Retirement Home,Dothan. Survivors include his childrenRuth (Lamar) CarMichael ofLineville, AL, Cathie Lane ofBirmingham, AL and Alan(Nancy) Lane of Montgomery AL, : five grandchildren,Larry CarMichael, Cheryl(Chris) Duck, Jay Blake,Rachel (Charles) Fry, Lissa(Eric) Peterson, : six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Morgan, and Matthew Duck,Powell Fry and Lane andConnor Peterson. Pallbearers will be LarryCarMichael, Jay Blake, ChrisDuck, Charles Fry, EricPeterson and LamarCarMichael. Honorary pallbearers will beclergy of the Alabama-WestFlorida Conference, theUnited Methodist Church.
