MARGARET GORRIE Obituary

GORRIE, Margaret Eliza, died Au-gust 26, 2002 in Montgomery at the age of 93. Margaret, a lifelong re-sident of Montgomery, is preceded in death by her two sisters, Rachael and Evelyn, her brother, Magnus James and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Frederick Gorrie. Margaret's teaching career began in 1933, when, after receiving her bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from Huntington Col-lege and the University of Alaba-ma, she accepted a position teaching math at Enterprise High School. From there she went to Pike Road, and in 1937 returned to La-nier High School, her own alma mater to begin her tenure there, which she describes as ""the best 33 years of my life"". She was inducted into the Lanier Alumni Masters of Progress Hall of Fame on Decemb-er 28, 1992. She is survived by her two nephews, Magnus Miller Gorrie of Birmingham and John Martin Gorrie, a lifelong resident of Mont-gomery. She was a member of Trin-ity Presbyterian Church. The family suggests memorials be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church. Grave-side services will be held on Thur-sday, August 29, 2002 at Green-wood Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael Brock of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating.
