Michael Pittman Obituary

Michael Allen Pittman

Montgomery - Michael Allen Pittman, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, November 21st after succumbing to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Friday, November 16th. Family surrounded him as he peacefully met his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Mike was a beloved husband, brother, father, Papa, and friend to so many people. He loved his children Michelle & Mickey and grandchildren Elizabeth, Adam & Hyatt to a fault and cherished his wife of 56 years Paula Jean Baker, or as he affectionately called her, PJ. He often bragged about his super-star daughter- in- law Kathleen and talented son-in -law Trey.

He was born and reared in the Midway Community of Butler County before moving to Montgomery in 1961. He was a Montgomery Firefighter from 1963-1976. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Custom Drapery and Decorating Service and Custom Shutter of Montgomery for over 45 years. He had a special talent for interior decorating and was an innovator in many ways. He was blessed to have thousands of clients over the years and traveled all over the US to install his plantation shutters.

Mike was active member of First Baptist Church of Prattville and a member of the Gideons. He was an avid Alabama fan, enjoyed gardening, loved animals, and spending time with family and friends. He loved being active and played on multiple softball teams over the years. He loved to tell a good story and reminisce about the good old days. His laugh was infectious and spirit was generous. He helped many a person in need and would give you the shirt off his back. He was a survivor by nature and received a liver transplant in 2013.

Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years Paula Baker Pittman, daughter Michelle Pittman Horne (Trey) Franklin, TN, son Michael (Mickey) Allen Pittman, Jr. (Kathleen) Palm Harbor, FL, granddaughter Elizabeth Honour Ulrich (Seth) New Port Richey, FL, (expecting first great granddaughter Lenya Kae on December 27), grandson Adam Honour, Gainesville, FL, grandson Hyatt Horne, Franklin TN, sister Cindy Knighten, brothers Steve & Tommy Pittman, sister-in-laws Faye Boyer and Janice Lester (Eddie) . Mike also had numerous cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Orlando John & Flora Foster Pittman, brothers Orlando John Pittman, Jr., Werth Pittman, Benjamin Pittman, Paul Pittman, sisters Doris Maddox, Florene Taylor, Linda Kelley, mother-in-law Pauline Durden Reynolds. He lost his faithful companion Lady earlier in the year.

Visitation will be held on Sunday November 25th at First Baptist Church in Prattville from 1-2pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2pm. Interment will be at Alabama National Cemetery at Montevallo, AL on Monday.

You have my deepest sympathy on your immeasurable loss. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14. May the God of loyal love comfort you during your time of sorrow.

We first met Mike after moving into the subdivision just a couple doors down from their home. Mike greeted us on the street with two questions, what team do you root for and what church do you go to? He continued to friendship us through the two years we lived in Prattville. While my husband was deployed he and Paula regularly checked in on us and told us to call if we ever needed anything, (with the occasional homemade pie from Paula every now and then). The world has lost some of its luster with his passing. However, I know Paula will be shinning even brighter as she continues to show Christlike charity for all those whom she comes in contact with. Our family is blessed to call them friends.
