Molly Hagood Obituary

Hagood, Molly Ann Hicks

Molly Ann Hicks Hagood passed away on May 7, 2016 in the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Eufaula at 11AM on Friday, May 13, 2016. Molly was a career educator, earning a high school degree from Athens High School, a bachelors degree in English from Birmingham Southern College, and a masters degree in counseling from Troy University. Through her career in guidance counseling at Admiral Moorer Middle School and Eufaula High School, Molly was able to help steer the conscientious efforts of countless young people along their paths to fulfilling their lifelong dreams. Molly was also able to express her love of service through her years of service through the Eufaula Christ Child Circle.

A native of Athens, Alabama, Molly met her lifelong love when she met John Thomas Hagood on a blind date in 1962. They were married on August 22, 1964, and remained married for almost 52 years, settling in Eufaula, Alabama in 1967 after John's service in the Navy. Molly and John raised two sons, John Patrick Hagood of Montgomery and Thomas Lanier Hagood of Fairhope, in their Eufaula home. In addition to these sons and her devoted husband, Molly is survived by her beloved sisters Martha Gwendolyn Hicks Dockery of Athens and Patsy Jane Hicks Johnson of Naperville, Illinois. Molly is additionally survived by three cherished grandchildren: John Patrick and his wife Jenny's Abigail Stewart Hagood, and Thomas Lanier and his wife Kristi's Molly Katherine Hagood and Thomas Lanier Hagood, Junior. She was predeceased by her parents, Curtis Alden and Gwendolyn Gross Hicks. In addition to her family and education, Molly enjoyed a passionate love for the fine arts, history, and the religious seasons of Christmas and Easter. Molly was during her lifetime an accomplished musician and dancer, and she lent her beautiful voice for many years to Eufaula's Camarata Chorus. Molly served on the board of the Eufaula Heritage Association and in many leadership capacities in many genealogical historical societies, most notably The Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Eufaula Christ Child Circle, The Eufaula Heritage Association, or the endowed scholarship fund of your choice.

Just found out from Pat this past July that Molly Ann died. I am so sorry. She had a wonderful personality and was very kind to me. She even sent me some pictures of the Gross family including some of my dad and her Uncle Dorsey that died in 1961 when I was 7. That meant a lot to me. The last time I talked with her she asked me to read a memorandum at Memorial Day at Rocky Branch Baptist Church that she and her two sisters had written when they placed flowers at the Gross family church in memory of what would have been their mom's 100th birthday had she lived. Our deepest sympathy, Morris and Zelda Gross Jones LaGrange, GA
