KENNETH MCCARTHA Obituary

MCCARTHA, Kenneth Ray, 65, of Montgomery, died February 10, 2003 at his home after an ex-tended illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. from Leak-Memory Chapel with Rev. Glen Pugh officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with Leak-Memory Chapel in charge. Visitation will be held Tues-day, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Survivors include his sister, Peggy McCartha of Montgomery; aunts and uncles, several cousins, and many friends. His parents, Ida and Ray McCartha, preceded him in death.A native of Crenshaw County, Mr. McCartha graduated from Green-ville High School and Troy State University. A career employee of the State Banking Department for over 33 years, Mr. McCartha served as Superintendent of Banks longer than anyone in Alabama banking history. Appointed to the office by four different governors, his tenure extended over 11 years, during which he oversaw some of the greatest changes in the banking industry. He was nationally recog-nized and widely respected for his role in bank regulation and super-vision.A military veteran, Mr. McCartha retired as a chief warrant officer in the Alabama National Guard.Pallbearers will be Dave Baggett, Wayne Curtis, Raymond Harrison, Bibb Lamar, Jerry Lawrence, Mike Medley and Trabo Reed. Honorary Pallbearers will be current and re-tired members of the State Banking Department.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Baptist Hospice or Hope Hull United Me-thodist Church.Leak-Memory Chapel Directing
