Jeanne Bamforth Obituary
Jeanne Charlotte Bamforth, formerly of Jenkintown and Maple Glen Jeanne Charlotte Bamforth died peacefully on March 2, 2015 at Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born May 28, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the youngest daughter of Arthur Hall Bamforth and Irene Elizabeth Taylor Bamforth. Jeanne spent her childhood on Barnby Moor Farm in Bucks County and then lived in Jenkintown and Maple Glen, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Abington Friends School and attended the College of William and Mary. At William and Mary, Jeanne was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and held leadership positions in student government, basketball, hockey, and on the college newspaper. After graduating, she worked for the Philadelphia advertising agency of Gray and Rogers and entered the Masters in Education program at University of Pennsylvania. As part of this program, Jeanne attended the University of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Scotland. Upon obtaining her Masters Degree, Jeanne spent her teaching career in the Abington, Pennsylvania school district, teaching American History and English in the secondary grades. During her lifetime, she explored the world, traveling to South America, Europe, the Far East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Jeanne was an avid and very accomplished golfer, a member of Huntington Valley Country Club, Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania and Cove Cay Golf Club, Clearwater, Florida. Upon her retirement from teaching, she moved to Clearwater, Florida, pursuing her golf and watching her beloved Phillies in spring training camp. In 2005, Jeanne moved to Winston-Salem, NC to be closer to her niece. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Helen Beatrice Bamforth Bonner. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Elizabeth Bamforth Adams of Haverford, Pennsylvania, and her nephew, James Richardson Adams III of Greenwich, Connecticut, her niece, Leslie Charlotte Adams Hollan of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, her nephew, Arthur Hall Adams of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, her nephew, Christopher Hendren Adams of Laguna Niguel, California, six grandnieces, two grandnephews, and numerous great grandnieces and great grandnephews. All of her life, Jeanne was a devoted aunt and friend, sharing her love of history, travel, golf and sports. She was the mainstay of her extended family and friends for many years. The family wishes to extend its gratitude and appreciation to all those at Salemtowne who faithfully cared for her and for the thoughtfulness of Hospice Palliative Care.
