Renzo Dallimonti Obituary

Renzo Dallimonti passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family, at Fort Washington Estates on Friday, August 4, 2017. He was 94. Survived by his cherished wife, Eileen Dallimonti, they enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 69 years. He is also survived by two daughters,Susan Peck (Michael), and Linda Strasburg (Scott), and his grandchildren, Kristi Cory (Russell) and Todd Peck (Ashley); and Stephanie (Justin), Erika (Christian) and Jeffrey Strasburg. He was also blessed with 3 great grandchildren, Benny, Ruby and Roscoe Cory. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Renzo was the son of Vico and Olga Dallimonti. His beloved sister, Lillian Tait preceded him in death. He is survived by her husband, James Tait, and their daughters, Linda Kennedy and Donna Diaz, and their families. He attended Olney High School, where he met his future wife, Eileen (Smith), and continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania where he received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Electrical Engineering. He also served as an Engineering Lieutenant on the USS Sitka in the Navy during World War II. Once married, he and his wife moved to Ambler where they raised their family. Renzo enjoyed an immensely satisfying career with Honeywell where he earned international distinction as “The Founding Father of the Distributed Control System” for his direction in the development of the TDC 2000, the world’s first commercial distributed control system. With regards to his contributions as Manager of Strategic Planning he was awarded the Si Fluor Technology Award for his use of display technology to microprocessor control. He also received Honeywell’s Sweatt Award for his expertise in man/machine interface. “Dalli”, as they called him, also holds two patents for designs related to process control technology. Upon his retirement, he continued to write for technological publications, teach, research and consult. During this time, in 2009, he was elected into the Process Automation Hall of Fame by Control Magazine for his lifetime of accomplishment and performance in the field of automation and controls. One of his favorite quotes was, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” And that is truly what he did. Renzo was a loving, kind person, not only dedicated to his work, but to his wife and family and community. Before moving to Fort Washington Estates, he enjoyed 10 years in residence at Gwynedd Estates where he became well known for his gift of puns, his sense of humor and mischievousness, and his love of playing pool. The family wishes to extend their great appreciation for the kindness of the nursing staff at Fort Washington Estates, the staff and friends at Gwynedd Estates, and to the professionalism of the ACTS Hospice team. Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home has provided caring assistance for which the family is so grateful. At Renzo and Eileen’s request, there will be a celebration of his life with his immediate family. No funeral services are planned, but the family warmly welcomes your thoughts and prayers.

Sincere condolences and prayers to the Dallimonti family for their loss.

My colleagues and I at Exxon Research and Engineering worked with Renzo and the Honeywell team during the 1970s on development and field testing of TDC-2000. Renzo was a confident and soft-spoken man and always a pleasure to work with. His ideas and visions pushed the boundaries of electronics technology that lead to step change improvements in process control systems.

May he rest in eternal peace.

I spent 40 years at Honeywell, from the Brown Instr. days in Phila. through the years on Virginia Dr. in Ft. Wash. I had the privilege of working with Dalli at the initial development of TDC2000 and creating the original "concept room" to introduce customers to the concept of modern, digital control room operations. He was very helpful to me in my 40 year career at Honeywell, and as a fellow Drexelite, was very encouraging to me in my pursuits. I admired him very much, and he will be truly missed.

My condolences to family and friends.

I started with Honeywell Ft Washington, Pa in 1976 at the early beginnings of TDC 2000, in the "TAC" Tech Assistance Center. I did not work directly with Renzo but have to give thanks for many years of employment with Honeywell because of his innovative development of TDC.
Thank you Renzo

Dalli was a very knowledgeable person, an industry idol, and a very humble man. He will be remembered not only for his contribution to the industrial process control world but also his pleasant personality and friendship to many of his colleagues at Honeywell.

Renzo made our world a better place in some many ways - the automation profession, Honeywell and his family to name just a few. The word legend is thrown about but we definitely lost one in Renzo. Thoughts and prayers with Eileen and the entire family.

My deepest condolences. Death of a loved one is never an easy thing to go through. Just remember you are not alone. Isaiah 61: 2 "...To comfort all who mourn" God is right here to help you.

I couldn't have asked for a better grandfather in my sweet Papa. He taught us so many things just by his example of being a caring, curious, hard working man who had a vision everyday to make his community and the world better.
