Garth Jason Conroe passed away on April 8, in Rosharon, Texas, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Garth was born on Jan. 27, 1982, in Fort Collins, Colorado.
He was the cherished son of Garth and Debbie Conroe, and older brother to Amanda Sue Shafer (Conroe). Garth Jason was the beloved grandson of Norma and Garth Conroe, and Irene and Neal Jaques of Salida.
Garth Jason spent much of his young life in and around the Salida area. He had a big extended family that lived in Salida and his family ties were always very important to him. His mother and father later moved to Montrose, Colorado where Garth thrived, making many lifelong friends.
He became a young father in 2000 to a daughter Ashley Nichole Conroe, now 23. He later married Ashley Eslinger in Minot, North Dakota in 2012 and they had another daughter, Kennedy Grace Conroe, in 2013. They were all living together in Rosharon, Texas at the time of his death.
In Rosharon, Garth Jason worked as a heavy haul truck driver for Harbinger Freight Services. When asked recently how he learned to drive these huge rigs, his reply was, "You tell them you already know how and then you figure it out."
That was Garth Jason in a nutshell – he could and did take on any challenge that he found interesting. Garth Jason loved travel and his career allowed for traveling and seeing new places.
Garth Jason was also a professional photographer and had his own photography business. He loved many outdoor pursuits as well. He always had a motorcycle and would go on extended trips with his wife and friends. He was a drone pilot as part of his outdoor activities. He loved going on elk hunts with his dad, bringing him back to Colorado. He had a huge zest for life and was planning on returning to his beloved mountains in Colorado.
Garth Jason also loved the Lord and was a member of Grace Community Church in Montrose, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife Ashley Eslinger Conroe, and his two daughters, Ashley Nichole Conroe and Kennedy Grace Conroe. Also his father and stepmother, Garth and Kathy Conroe, his mother, Debbie Conroe, his sister, Amanda Sue Shafer, her husband, Ron Shafer and their son RJ. Shafer of Tyler, Texas, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly.
Celebration of Life to be held at the Ute Indian Museum, July 6 at 3 p.m.
