Georgie Ellen Mize departed this life on May 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 1, 1938, in Bend, Oregon, to Clarence and Alice Walker. She was the fourth child among 11 siblings. Georgie joins her parents, four siblings, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild as she returns to live with her Heavenly Father, leaving behind a legacy that transcends generations.
Georgie's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, family, and adventure. In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Mize, beginning a journey that spanned continents and decades. As an Air Force and airline pilot's family, they traversed the globe.
Settling in Montrose, Colorado, within the comforting walls of their home on Spring Creek Mesa, Georgie and Larry anchored their family amongst their bustling lives. While Larry soared the skies as a pilot, Georgie painted her world with hues of creativity. A skilled artist, she poured her soul into every stroke of her oil paintings and every delicate creation of handmade jewelry. Her passion for art extended beyond her own endeavors as she inspired and imparted her wisdom and talent to many eager learners.
Yet, amidst her artistic pursuits, Georgie's greatest masterpiece was her family. She was the heart of their home, radiating warmth and hospitality to all who crossed her threshold. Her joy knew no bounds when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as she showered them with love and affection.
Georgie's memory will live on in the beauty she bestowed upon the world. She is survived by her four children, Kathie Jones, Gary Mize, Carma Reagan and Tammy Osborne, as well as her 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services to honor her life were held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1521 S. Hillcrest Drive, Montrose, followed by interment at Grandview Cemetery.
