John Richmond Culpepper, 30, left this world Monday, March 14, 2022, surrounded by his family and friends, after a battle with depression.
John was born June 27, 1991, in Charlotte.
He was a wickedly talented artist, a fantastic drummer, a fisherman, and urban explorer. Not only was he incredibly intelligent with a tender heart and an off-kilter sense of humor, he was also handsome as all get-out with a smile to beat the band. John had an unwavering dedication to his truth.
John will be forever deeply loved and missed by his mother, Stephanie Willhelm; his father, Damon Culpepper; his beloved brother, Lance Culpepper, Lorena Caton; grandparents, Pat and William Culpepper; aunts and uncles, Jeff Willhelm, Tom Willhelm, Eric Willhelm, Rebecca Cheatham, Melanie Culpepper, Chris Nesmith, Kelly Culpepper, and Jane Siemens; cousins, Katie, Sara, Dexter, Luna, Jasper, Tess, Eli, Frankie, Caleb, Sandy and Amelia; and all of his incredible friends.
We are comforted that John is reunited in another realm with those who have gone before him including his grandparents, Carolyn and Louis Willhelm; his aunt, Sandy Shelton Willhelm; and his uncle, namesake and fellow drummer, John Cosley Willhelm.
There will be a celebration of John's life Saturday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at King's Mountain Preserve and Retreat Center, 321 Indian Springs Rd. in Blacksburg, S.C. In lieu of flowers, plant a tree, go for a hike, take someone fishing or make a donation in John's honor to Sierra Club Outdoors for All Program, NAMI, or any other cause that feels right to you.
