Milton Almond Obituary

Milton Almond

April 22, 1944 - September 9, 2025

Milton DeBerry Almond, 81, of Davidson, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Atrium Health Lake Norman in Cornelius.

He was born on April 22, 1944 in Stanly County, N.C., to the late John and Katherine Milton Almond. Mr. Almond was a graduate of Albemarle High School. He attended Wingate College then later graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. After graduation, he worked for Cavin Funeral Home in Mooresville and later he became a partner in Almond, Raymer & McConnell Funeral Home in Huntersville until he retired. During his 37 years as a funeral director he was recognized by his peers with many awards. Milton was a retired volunteer fireman with the Mooresville Fire Department.

Mr. Almond was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius. He was also a member of the Jaycees, Crimestoppers, NC Funeral Directors Association, and the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League).

He had many interests. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed cooking breakfast for the other members of his hunt club more than actually hunting himself. He also enjoyed fishing, especially with his dad. Mr. Almond loved music and sang in many church choirs over the years. He was a member of the Barbershop Quartet for several years and performed with the local group. He enjoyed Duplicate Bridge and held Master points. Mr. Almond's love for people, compassion and kindness will always be remembered.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jane McConnell Almond.

He is survived by his daughter, Samantha A. Brawley and husband, Bradley; son, Michael Dayley; sister, Katherine A. Robison; brother, John W. Almond, Jr.; and a large extended family and many friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Hogge officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 19600 Zion Ave, Cornelius, NC 28031 or Cornelius Animal Shelter, PO Box 399, Cornelius, NC 28031 or the Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue, P.O. Box 91, Walkertown, NC 27051 https://blueridgeboxerrescue.com/donation/
