Darwin Davis Obituary

Darwin A. Davis, 89, of Coalfield, passed away peacefully at Parkwest Medical Center on Aug. 24, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Darwin was born on Dec. 17, 1935, in Harriman. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Darwin was a devout Christian and a man of strong faith. He believed in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love, beauty and peace that would await him after his passing. He enjoyed studying his Bible on a daily basis.
Darwin accepted Christ at the age of twelve and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was an active member of the church and served on various church committees. In line with his Christian beliefs, Darwin was a mentor to many young men and women during his lifetime.
Darwin proudly served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. He attended Tennessee Technological University and The University of Tennessee. He worked as a machinist at Y-12/Union Carbide and taught Machine Shop at Oliver Springs High School from 1967-1981. Darwin was the baseball coach and the ‘Voice of the Bobcats� during football season. He was a supervisor at Boeing until his retirement.
Darwin was active in his community where he was instrumental in organizing the Tri- County (Morgan, Roane and Anderson) Little League Football Association, serving as President from 1968-1975. He also coached Coalfield Little League Football for many years. Darwin was inducted into the Oliver Springs High School Hall of Fame for his contributions to the school and athletic department. Arrowhead Park, in Oliver Springs, was dedicated in his honor, the Darwin (T.C.) Davis Sports Complex. He served as a Morgan County School Board Member and was also on the Morgan County Equalization Board.
Darwin enjoyed Tennessee sports and was an usher at Neyland Stadium for many years. He enjoyed Coalfield, Oliver Springs, golfing and fishing. Family was important to Darwin. He enjoyed vacations, holidays, and special family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Lige) Davis and Ruby Newcomb Davis; mother-in-law, Bobbie Davis; father-in-law, Calvin Davis; sister-in-law, Barbara Jackson; and brother-in-law, Benny Skiles.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years Doralene Skiles Davis; son, Dennis Davis (Holly); daughter, Deidre Holt (Joel); grandchildren, Cameron Holt and Emily Davis; sister, Glenda Fritts and brother-in-law Tom Fritts; brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Best Friends), Curt and Millie Skiles; sister-in-law, Shelby Skiles; brother-in-law, Jackie Jackson; and many special nieces, nephews, close family members and friends.
The family received friends on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. The funeral service began at 5:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor Steve McDonald. Interment followed in Estes Cemetery in Coalfield.

Mr. Davis was my shop teacher in 1971 and 1972. Being a knuckle headed boy did not keep me from learning skills I still use today. Thanks T.C. and rest in piece.
