Verna Hargis

Verna Juanita Hargis, 92, of Wartburg, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.
Juanita was born on Sept. 2, 1921 in Vine Ridge, Tenn to the late I.B. and Fannie Hargis. She was a devoted Christian. She was a loving person and a friend to everyone who knew her; she loved spending time with family and friends. She worked as a welder in the shipyards in Mobile, Ala. during World War II. She also worked for many years as a child care provider for many families in the community. ÊShe loved to read, especially her Bible and Zane Grey. She enjoyed spending time with the her senior adult friends and going out to eat. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, I.B. and Fannie Hargis; brothers, Guy P. Hargis and wife Rose Hargis, Donald and wife Myrtle Hargis, Walter and wife Edna Hargis, Kenneth and wife Fay Hargis, Kelly Ray Hargis Sr. and wife Helen, Warren Hargis and Paul Hargis; sister, Edna Mae Hargis; aunts, Maude Choate, Sarah and husband George Higdon; nephews, Larry Richard Hargis, Sr., Roger Jerome 'Jerry' Hargis, Kelly Ray Hargis, Jr. and Randy Hargis; and nieces, Sandra Sue Hargis Dionne and Merley Hargis.
She is survived by her dear friends, Janet Bradshaw,ÊAlan Bradshaw, and their daughters Stephanie Cummings and Melanie Farrell; nephews, Pat Hargis, Steve and wife Lisa Hargis, Leonard Hargis, Neil Hargis, Les Dionne; nieces,ÊDiana Hargis, Barbara Swails, Lucille Hargis, Linda Gail Hargis, Dixie Lee Hargis Hicks, Sara Sue Hargis Johnstone, Nanita Hargis Talampas; great-nephews,ÊLarry Hargis, Jr., Rodney and wife Alanna Hargis, Nicholas Hargis, Anthony Hargis, Paul Dionne, Chris and wife Roxanne Dionne, Kevin and wife Tiffany Hargis, Kelly Ray Hargis III; great-nieces,ÊKellee Hargis, Stacy Hargis Lasig, Crystal Hargis, Dinah and husband Joe Grimaldi, Sarah and husband David Starling, Cheryl Hargis Branson, Sharon Hargis, ÊAnnie Johnstone, Donna Johnstone; great-great-nephews, Lukas Lasig, Lesly Wesenberg, Evan Dionne; great-great-nieces, Fiona Hargis, Gracy Lasig, Jessica Marie Harrin-Hildebrand, Rachel Nichol, Ashley Wilson Maniaci. She is also survived by the children of Larry Hargis, Jr. Dinah Grimaldi and Sarah Starling and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services followed at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Carolyn Anderson officiating. Internment followed in the Wartburg City Cemetery.
Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg was in charge of arrangements.
