Charles Davis

MAIDEN - Charles Eugene Davis, age 70, of Maiden, passed away March 5, 2009, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born Aug. 30, 1938, in Edgecombe County, he was the son of the late Jesse Ray Davis and Estelle Batts Davis. He was an arson investigator for the NC Foresty Service. He also was a member of the Maiden American Legion Post 240, the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge No. 217, vice chairman of the State Employees Association District No. 5 Retirees Chapter, and a veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Ray Davis. Survivors include Diane D. Davis, wife, of the home; Keli Davis, daughter, of Alexandria, Va.; Chuck Davis, son, of Hickory; Jeanie Davis Hawkins, daughter, and her husband Jeff, of Morganton; and their mother, Jeannette Davis, of Morganton; Carol Gardner, sister, and her husband Larry, of Kinston; Martha Lesure, sister, and her husband Gary, of Marathon, Fla.; and Garrett and Bryson Hawkins, grandsons, of Morganton. The family had a visitation on Saturday at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church in Morganton, with the Rev. Roger Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the interment, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the church.
