Doris McCoy

July 16, 1940 - August 30, 2025

Doris Jones Cook McCoy entered this world on July 16, 1940, in Buncombe County. She departed this earthly life for her Heavenly home on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. In her early years, she worked with her uncle Arie Brigman at the renowned Biltmore Estate, helping to care for the animals on the farm. Later in life, she relocated to the Oak Hill area of Burke County. She worked for many years for Alba Waldensian, where she developed many life long friendships. She was a faithful member of Calvary Church in Morganton, where she always known to lend a helping hand in any capacity. Above all, she was a loving mother to six children and beloved grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray McCoy; son, Sammy Cook; son-in-law, Johnny Wright; daughter-in-law, June Cook; and in 1997, a grandchild, Angel Wright.

Left to mourn her loss but cherish her precious memories are her children, Michael Cook of Hildebrand, Tim Cook (Carol) of Connelly Springs, Debbie Bridges (Danny) of Valdese, Angela Honeycutt (Randell) of Lenoir, and Tammy Wright of Valdese; sisters, Kathy Dixon and Mary Vanderrenter; brother, Dean Burgess; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life in honor of Mrs. Doris Jones McCoy will take place at Calvary Assembly of God on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 2 p.m., with Pastors Randell Honeycutt and Chris Howerton officiating. Let us continue to keep the McCoy, Cook ,and connected families in our thoughts and prayers.
