Edwin Bailey

Edwin Bailey MORGANTON Edwin "Yates" Bailey, 91, of Southern Pines, and a former resident of Morganton for many years, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012. He was born in Cleveland County, Sept. 25, 1921 and was a son of the late Benjamin and Florence Cooper Bailey. He was a retired from Great Lakes Carbon Corporation. Mr. Bailey was an avid hunter and fisherman, former Little League baseball coach, and a fan of the former Morganton High School football team. He was an active member of North Morganton Baptist Church for 30 years and was voted Man of the Year. Yates is survived by his wife, Katherine Bridges Bailey, of the home; sons, Roger Edwin Bailey and wife, Camille, of Pinehurst, and Dennis Bailey and wife, Sherry, of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, Philip, Kelty, Rich, Will, and Skat Bailey; and great-grandson, Austin Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Forest, Clarence, Everette, Byron, and Gaston Bailey; and sisters, Gladys Harris and Ester Fraser. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at North Morganton Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, (Monday, Nov. 26), at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour.
