James Churchill Obituary

James Churchill

January 28, 1941 - August 11, 2021

Mr. James Churchill, 80, of Morganton, went home to be with His Lord and Savior Wednesday Aug. 11, 2021, at Grace Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Churchill was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Durham, a son of the late Joseph Churchill and Thelma Katie Guess Buffaloe. After his parents passing, he spent the majority of his formative years at Mills Home Baptist Children's Home. Through his life there, he gained many wonderful friends who he considered his family as well.

James attended Catawba Valley Baptist Church for many years where he renewed his faith. He enjoyed discussing the love of Jesus and talking about the Bible. James lived out his faith through his generous heart and his tireless devotion to his family. He took great pleasure in taking care of his family and friends and anyone else he came across that might be in need. There just isn't enough room or words to describe the heart of his special man we call, Daddy.

James spent the majority of his career in the furniture industry as a Color Stylist for Reliance Akzo Nobel, consulting and designing for various furniture companies such as Century Furniture, Drexel Heritage and Henredon. He enjoyed his career and was known for and wide for his artistic abilities.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Christian James Churchill.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Kristopher Churchill and wife, Melissa, of Raleigh; two daughters, Niki Churchill-Lowman and husband, Steve Lowman, of Connelly Springs and Paige Churchill and husband, John, of Wilmington; the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Kylea Churchill, Korbin Churchill, Evey Churchill, Alex Lowman and Alston Lowman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday Aug. 17, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with the Rev. Jesse Lott officiating. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina, 600 Blackwell Blvd., Thomasville, NC 28360.

I realized that I hadn't seen my Neighbor in a while. We would usually talk where our mail boxes are. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. He was such a good man. When I used to work nights, he would make sure my wife was OK if she got scared of a possible intruder. I really enjoyed the conversations we had. Rest in Peace and I will miss you James.

Jimmy was well-loved by his Mills Home Orphanage Family. As a child, I always loved and respected Jimmy whether he was on the basketball court or had been selected as Youth Minister for the Church. Later I discovered his tender heart, his ability to write poetry, and his deep love for God, Family and Country. God´s Comforting Blessings on his precious loved ones. -

Dear Churchill Family,
Our hearts are grieved at the passing of James. The minute we meet James, it was an instant friendship. His humor, ability to make all feel appreciated and his common sense approach to life was amazing. He immediately captured our hearts. James was our ally in politics and our brother in the Lord. We know James is in Heaven, dancing with the Saints in the streets of gold and laying in the arms of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We, in Christ will see him again. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Sincerely, Dr. Michael & Katherine Magnotta
