Ms. Jean Auton Dalmas, 74, of Villar Lane, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, in Boone.

Ms. Dalmas was born in Valdese, May 31, 1948, the third of four children to Mr. Jean Pierre Dalmas (1912-2002) and Ada Virginia Dalmas (1919-1995).

Ms. Dalmas graduated from Valdese High School in 1966. She continued her education at The University of North Carolina in Greensboro and graduated with a BA in biology in 1970. She returned to UNCG and completed her certification as secondary science teacher in 1983.

She retired from Hoilman Electric Company in 1998 after twelve years as an office manager. Previous employment included: BioMedical Reference Laboratory, Burlington; Girl Scout Council of Catawba Valley, Hickory; Burke County Department of Social Services, Morganton; and Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

Jean was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Unit 234) in Valdese where she served numerous offices, including unit president. Ms. Dalmas also volunteered her time at the Waldensian Heritage Museum and served on the Planning Board for the Town of Valdese.

In her personal time, Ms. Dalmas enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, birdwatching, cross stitching, making clothes, socializing with friends and family, and researching family genealogy. Through her research, Jean thoroughly enjoyed sharing the history of the Waldensians and the family.
