John Alexander Mabrey CONNELLY SPRINGS Mr. John Alexander Mabrey , 92 , of Connelly Springs, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, at College Pines Nursing Center, following a period of declining health. John was born July 26, 1921, in Cherokee County, S.C., to the late Toye Lee and Nellie Hamrick Mabrey. Mr. Mabrey served his country during World War II, with the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Lee Mabrey; two grandsons, David Mabrey and Brian Mabrey; two brothers, James Mabrey and Virgil Mabrey; three sisters, Peggy Dyson, Evelyn Hollifield and Ruby Robinson. Survivors include his wife, Christine Miller Mabrey; one daughter, Shirley Mabrey Elmore and husband, Harold; one son, John (Wayne) Mabrey and wife, Linda; two grandchildren, Tammy Mabrey Barnes and Carol Deluca; five great-grandchildren David Barnes and wife, Laura, Trent Barnes and wife, Julie, Paige Barnes, Nathan Deluca, and Jesse Cline. Also surviving is one daughter-in-law, Ruth Mabrey; two brothers, Olen Mabrey and wife, Jean and Bob Mabrey and wife, Polly; two sisters, Kay Blanton and Doris Dellinger and husband, Ralph; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held today (Tuesday, July 30), at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with the Revs. Leonard Lindsey, Jerry Gamble and Randy Huffman officiating. Interment will follow, at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, today (Tuesday), from 1 to 2 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Service, in Valdese.
