Philip Ledford, 74, of Morganton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022.
Born in Yancey County, Oct. 21, 1947, he was the son of the late Paul Ledford and Pauline Austin Ledford.
Philip was a romantic and was married to his beloved wife for 57 years, Joyce "Sue" DeVinney Ledford. He had a loving, giving heart and never did anything halfway. Philip enjoyed fishing, golf, and was an avid outdoorsman, but a terrible shot.
Mr. Ledford is survived by his daughters, Karen Ledford Clark (Eddie) and Jennifer Ellen Ledford-Wallace (Peter James); grandchildren, Courtney, Jarrain (deceased), Cameron, Rebecca, Meagan, Noah, and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Emery; brothers, Vernon and L.J. Ledford; and sisters, Norma Jean Houston (Gus), Wilma Lee Haynes (Carl), and Inez Monroe (Mike).
In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by two brothers, Burl and Jimmy Ledford.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Marty Bess officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1939 Paul Shuping Ave., Morganton, NC 28655.

I have such great memories with Phil. He taught me how to trout fish and I'm now passing his knowledge along to my sons. I'll miss Phil and his great story telling too.
