Timothy McGee Obituary

Dr. Timothy Conrad McGee

April 17, 1956 - October 17, 2022

Dr. Timothy Conrad McGee, 66, of Lenoir, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 17, 2022.

He was born April 17, 1956, in Buncombe County, and was the son of James Conrad McGee (J.C.) and the late Margaret (Margo) Hurlocker McGee. He was preceded in death by his mother; his younger sister, Constance McGee Mabe; and brother-in-law, Eric Keyes.

Dr. McGee was a graduate of the University of North Carolina and the Pennsylvania School of Optometry. He started his practice in Lenoir and in June of 1992, he joined Morganton Eye Physicians where he spent the last 30 years of his career. He had so many devoted and loyal patients over the years that always talked about what a wonderful, talented, caring, and thorough doctor he was during their visits.

He was an Eagle Scout, state champion square dancer in high school, and a UNC basketball usher during his four years at UNC. Tim loved the Carolina Tar Heels and he truly "bled blue." He also was a PSI-owner of the Carolina Panthers. He also loved fly fishing especially with his two sons, Chris and Casey. He was very involved in the community and served on The Caldwell County Board of Health for many years.

Dr. McGee was steadfast in his faith and was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Lenoir. He was a Christian and treated everyone with kindness and compassion. He had many wonderful friends who adored him and respected his character, integrity, honesty, morality, and loyalty.

He loved his family and is survived by his wife, Joan Miller McGee of Lenoir, who was the love of his life; his father, James Conrad McGee (J.C.) of Asheville; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Keyes of Lenoir. In addition, he leaves behind two beloved sons, Christopher McGee and wife, Megan; and precious grandson, Granger of Swannanoa; and Casey Palmer-McGee and wife, Kelley, of Bellingham, Wash. Also, one brother, Walter McGee and wife, Yvonne, of Taylors, S.C.; along with a niece and two nephews; several grandnieces and nephews; as well as many cousins. Lastly, Tim loved and was so proud of his beautiful Dalmatian, JOJO.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Lenoir, with Pastor Roger Beck officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Rick Gilliam, Dr. David Sasser, Dr. Chris Orr, Dr. Bill Shepherd, Dr. Ken Best, and Dr. Dean Strickland. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. The family will receive visitors from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1226, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to The Lenoir Service League, P.O. Box 2304, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Such a shock to learn of Tim's passing. I came to Valdese 6 months before Tim and he has been my eye physician since day one. Great physician, always cordial, always caring. You are and will be missed. Well done good and faithful servant.
