Charles Settle Obituary

Charles Raymond Settle, 63, of Sheffield Lake, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 20, 1948 in Cedar Grove, W.Va. to Fred D. and Ruth (nee Carter) Settle, he lived in Vermilion and Lorain before moving to Sheffield Lake in 1978.
Charles graduated top of his class from Vermilion High School in 1966 where he was a member of quiz bee team, national honor society, and played offensive tackle for the Vermilion Sailors. He graduated from Ohio Northern University, 1971, Phi Delta Chi, with a degree in pharmacy.
He worked as a pharmacist at Rite Aid in Sheffield Lake for 6 years. Prior to that, he worked as a pharmacist for Discount Drug Mart in Lorain for 19 years and Gray Drug for 15 years.
He was a member of Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ, Lorain. Active in his church, he volunteered many hours in the kitchen cooking for different events, including making chicken paprikash for the Hungarian booth at the Lorain International Festival. He volunteered as a pharmacist at the Lorain Free Clinic for 25 years and served on the clinic's board.
Charles enjoyed traveling, gardening, helping his customers, sports, and cooking. He was a exemplary man who loved to spend time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his son, Jonathon (Elizabeth Benson) of Lorain; a daughter, Megan Settle Rhea (Nathan Rhea) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Benjamin Rhea, Madeline Settle and Noelle McNatt; his mother, Ruth (nee Carter) of Vermilion; a brother, George of Amherst; and sisters, Anita Stokeley of Vermilion and Rose McKinney of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 22 years, Erica (nee Nagy) in 1997; his daughter, Carol Lee in 1989; and his father, Fred Settle in 1966.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am. Rev. Peter L. Toth, pastor of Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.

I just heard today about the passing of Chuck . I was so sorry to hear about it . My deepest sympathys go out to his family. I worked with him in the Lorain Discount Drug Mart , I really thought so much of him.
Johnny , I knew you better than your sister Megan and he was so proud of both of you . He will be greatly missed . My thoughts and prayers are with all of you . God Bless you all and give you the strength to accept that he is in no more pain and he left a great void in all that knew him.

I wil never forget working with Chuck at Rite Aid when a little girl looked up at him with big eyes and a big smile and said "Santa" Chuck just laughed and said yes. He will always be know as Santa. He was a loving and giving man who will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family my prayers are with you in this time.
