Clarence Camp Obituary

Clarence 'Chick' Camp
Clarence "Chick" Camp, 83, passed away at his home in Norwalk, Ohio on Sunday, August 21, 2011. With friends and family by his side he passed away peacefully after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Chick was born on May 17, 1928 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Leo and Florence (Ott) Camp. He attended St. Mary's School until the family moved to Norwalk in 1939, where he attended St. Paul's School. He remained a resident of Norwalk and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was one of the founding members of the annual parish festival.
While continuing to work on the family farm he was employed at the Greenwich Tractor factory before going on to work at New Departure Hyatt in Sandusky as a bar machinist for 44 years, retiring in 1991.
Chick served his country in the army during the Korean War and was awarded a good conduct medal. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 2743 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 41 and Eagles Club 711.
Chick enjoyed playing baseball and softball. He was on a traveling softball team for years until he retired from playing to coach in the Lefty Grove League. He also coached the Bronson-Norwalk Conservation Club men's softball team, which won the city championship in 1981. Euchre was another passion of Chick's. He was an avid player and took a deck of cards just about everywhere he went, just in case he could get a game going. He played every Tuesday at the Eagles for years.
Chick enjoyed traveling. Some of his favorite vacation spots included Hawaii, Arizona, Florida, Las Vegas, Branson, and Myrtle Beach. But what most defined Chick were his relationships. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Chick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Margaret Lorcher Camp, whom he married November 22, 1956; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Lynn (Volker) Camp of Norwalk and Bryan and Carroll (Sugaski) Camp of Vermilion; grandchildren, Jennifer of Rocky River, Kimmi, Stephanie, Nicole, Sarah, Jeff, and Mike of Vermilion, and Kaylee of Norwalk; great grandchildren Vance of Vermilion and Eli of Norwalk; brothers and sister-in-laws, Carl and Linda Camp, Leon and Janice Camp, sister-in-law Irene Camp, all of Norwalk; brother/sister-in-laws Herman of New Braunfels, Texas, Herb and Janet Knapp of Roanoak, Texas, John and Donna Lorcher of Knoxville, Tennessee, Bill and Fran Grose of Tucson, Arizona, and Mike and Chris Grose of Norwalk, Ohio; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Raymond and Leonard Camp, sister, Mary Louise (Camp) Kerner; brother-in-laws Dean Wobser, Bob Wobser, and Richard 'Dick' Kerner; sister-in-laws Joan (Young) Camp and Arelene (Oates) Lorcher and by his father and mother in law, Herman and Edna (Green) Lorcher..
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate.
