Cynthia Farrell

Cynthia Louise Guthrie Farrell, 79, of Vermilion, died Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Ames Family Hospice, Westlake after a lengthy illness.She was born November 13, 1941 in Shelby, OH and moved to Vermilion in 1946. She moved to Columbus in 1969 where she resided until her return to Vermilion in 1999.Cynthia graduated Vermilion High School in 1959. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with her Bachelors in Education in 1963. When she attended BGSU, she received a Varsity letter in Swimming. Cynthia taught 4th and 7th grades in Vermilion from 1963-1969. During the 60's, she was also the waterfront director at Camp Timer Lane. She then taught 3rd grade in the Columbus City Schools for 24 years, retiring in June of 1993. During her retirement, she was a playground supervisor for Vermilion Schools and a swimming instructor at the Lorain YMCA.She was a member of Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Vermilion Alumni Band, Madeleine Chapter #204 O.E.S., NEA, Columbus Education Association (CEA), Central Ohio Teachers Association, Columbus Teachers Association; and the Vermilion Junior Civic Club. She enjoyed boating, bowling, swimming, knitting, crocheting, and she especially enjoyed helping others.She is survived by her brother, David (Nancy) Gutherie of Vermilion and her niece, Joyce Snyder of Vermilion; and one grand nephew, Joshua.She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Geraldine (nee Nelson) Gutherie.The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Pastor David Baynes will officiate. Friends and family who want to come are welcome to attend, but due to Covid-19, we are asking that people be careful to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and refrain from embracing.
