David Socha Obituary

AMHERST – David Edmond Socha, 52 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010 at Elyria Memorial Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer.
David was born and raised in Amherst and attended the Lorain County JVS. As a lifetime resident of Amherst he was employed for twelve years at Standby Screw Machine Products as a maintenance technician. Prior to that he served as a maintenance technician for fifteen years at Invacare and over ten years at Clovervale Foods in the same capacity.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. David enjoyed fishing and hunting at the family cottage on Pelee Island in Ontario, Canada. He also treasured his time spent watching his sons play football for Firelands High school.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Gloria Jean (nee Ilcisko); his sons, David E. Socha and Michael J. Socha, both currently at home. He was also loved by three brothers, Daniel Socha of Oberlin, Richard Socha and Thomas Socha both of Amherst; two sisters Jean M. Korona of Canton, Michigan, and Marianne Socha of Huron, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Eugene M. and Marie L. Socha (nee Meyer).
Friends may call Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 5 -9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home. Mrs. Maria Maldonado, lay minister of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst, Ohio.
