David L. Strickling

1956 - 2023

David L. Strickling, 67, of Elyria, died Thursday October 19, 2023 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain after a 4 month battle with pancreatic cancer.He was born April 8, 1956 in Mansfield. He graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1974 and at the same time attended Pioneer & Knox County Career Centers where he became a certified welder. At the age of 18, he owned Dave's Welding in Butler, Ohio. Later, he became an apprentice pipefitter with Plumbers/Steamfitters Local # 42 in Norwalk and became a journeyman and master craftsman. In 1990, he was assigned to work in the construction of the body shop at the Avon Lake Ford Plant where they liked his work so much that he was offered a job as a pipefitter in the plant. He wound up working at the Ford plant for 32 years retiring this past January. Dave was also part of the Emergency Response Team at Ford. Dave was very talented at woodworking and stonework. He enjoyed boating, fishing and was a member of Nugent's Canal Yacht Club in Port Clinton and the UAW Local #2000 skilled trades union. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Strickling (nee Turnage); sons: Jeriod Jewell, Carson Strickling (Brigid), Michael Kolonick and Cole Strickling; daughters: Dr. Valerie Erdman (Dr. Nicholas), Carissa Stringfield (Damian), Courtney Kolonick (fiancé Nicholas Weppelman) and Army Major Selena Belton (Cody); grandchildren: Kelsey, Alyssa, Savannah, Cailynn, Kalley, Nicholas, Addison, Emerson, Rylee, Avery, Harlow, Oliver, Eleanor & Harrison; brother, James Strickling (Rosemary); nephews: Matthew Strickling and Steve Strickling (Heather) and mother-in-law, Edna Burress. He was preceded in death by his parents, Denzel & Bonnie Strickling (nee Arnett) and daughter, Ashley Jewell Perez.The family will receive friends Tuesday October 24, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Sheffield Church of God, 2280 Abbe Rd, Sheffield. Funeral services will be held in the church on Wednesday October 25, 2023 at 11:00 am. The Rev Nathan Harvey, pastor, will preside.
