Elsie McKinnon Obituary
Elsie was born March 28, 1921, in Lorain to Hungarian immigrants, Rose and John Horvath. She was a life-long resident of Lorain.
Elsie retired from Lorain Products Corp. as a factory assembler after 31 years.
She attended St. Anthony School and remained an active member of the church. She was proud to be among the church members that established the Pierogi Sales Program that continues to be the major fundraiser for the school. Knitting and baking were her favorite interests.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Frank) Hacker, of KY; daughter-in-law, Michaelene McKinnon; granddaughter, Allison (Robert) McKinnon-Williams; great-grandchildren, Talia, Trip, and Aldon; and nephews, Kenneth Thomas, Bill, and Richard Horvath, and Charles McKinnon.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Donald P. McKinnon; son, Donald J. McKinnon; parents, Rose and John Horvath; brothers, William and John Horvath, and sister, Irene Thomas.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon in the Narthex of St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, OH. A Requiem Mass will take place at 12 noon at the church. Father Edward Smith will officiate. Burial will take place in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Michael Thomas Fund at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Elyria Friendship APL of Lorain County, 8303 Middle Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035, or a charity of your choice.

As a young man just out of engineering school Elsie became my "work mom" during my nearly 14 years at Lorain Products Corp. For many of those years she helped build the prototype equipment that my fellow engineers and I had designed. She was always quick to recognize and point out needed changes in mechanical assembly that would benefit the manufacturing process once the unit was turned over to the assembly plant. One memory of her that will never leave my mind is the day I stood beside her in the prototype shop as we listened intently to the overhead speaker blasting out the network news that our president, John F Kennedy, had just been assassinated. In disbelief I stood next to her at her workstation while tears rolled down our cheeks listening to news that was unimaginable. Elsie and I bonded that day and I shall never forget her. Forever rest in the arms of our Lord dear friend.

Carol. So sorry of the passing of your mom. I remember so well her & my mom walking home over the tracks from LPC. She was such a sweet lady.
