James E. Jurasin

1940 - 2022

James E. Jurasin, age 82, of Amherst, and formerly of Lorain, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice on the evening of Saturday July 2, 2022. Jim was born in Lorain on January 21, 1940 and was a graduate of Lorain Saint Mary High School. While there, he was a member of the varsity baseball team. Following his graduation, he continued his athleticism on the diamond until the age of fifty-eight playing both fast and slow pitch softball for teams sponsored by Angie’s Coach Light Inn, Amherst Lumber Company, and Amvets Post # 47. Jim was most recently employed as a supervisor for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Elyria; he retired from that position in 1998 following a career that spanned a quarter of a century with the bottler. Previously, he had worked for twenty years as the manager for Meyer-Goldberg and had also served in a similar capacity for Super Value Grocery in both Lorain and Sheffield Lake prior to that. A long-time parishioner of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, he was an accomplished photographer and an avid fan of casino gaming. Along with his wife, Linda, he also enjoyed recreational vehicle travel as well as spending time at the couple’s seasonal residence in Surprise, Arizona. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years Linda (nee DeLeonardis), son James J. Jurasin of Euclid and granddaughter Lilianna Jurasin of Lorain. The brother of Sam, John, Mildred, Agnes, and Donald, Jim was the loving son of James and Barbara (nee Stephonic) Gjurasin. The Jurasin family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the team of caregivers at Mercy New Life Hospice for the care and compassion that they provided to Jim during his relationship with the program. You’re all living angels. Graveside services will be conducted privately for the family during committal rites at Cavalry Cemetery with Reverend Craig Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish officiating.
