Coach Washington has been my 8 year old daughter Abby's basketball coach since she started playing the sport at 4. But like to so many others, he was so much more to us than just a coach.
My daughter having slight ADHD, became his little assistant. He took her under his wing like his own, and always checked up on her. He had a way of always making you feel special. Never saw him without a smile and one that would warm your heart or cheer you up no matter how rough of a day it's been. He was never too busy to take time out to chat or even have a little heart-to-heart, if he saw it was needed.
As our family prayed and cried together when we heard the news this evening, my two little ones asked why did God take him? And as my heart was breaking and I was asking myself the same question, the answer that I gave them which I must also believe is God was so proud of him and all the good that he was doing here he must have had a very important and special job that he needed him for in heaven. But Heaven is just too far away for him to tell us why he had to go. He was such a special man. And with so much sadness, turmoil, and darkness in this world right now, he was always a bright and constant light shining to guide us.
Titan families and all that knew and loved him-let's keep his light shining bright by showing love and compassion to those around us. Take time out to listen, to give guidance, or to even just say a kind word when you can. With heavy hearts we must find some comfort that we have a very special angel watching over all of us .
So Lady Titans, Junior Lady Titans, and Titan families, let's make Coach Washington proud as he watches over us by taking time out for others and doing our best each day in whatever we do as he did here!
My deepest sympathy and condolences to his family and also to all whose lives he has touched.! But on our darkest days, let's remember how blessed we are to have known him!
We love you Coach Washington! You will be in our hearts forever! Definitely one of the good guys!
