Margaret McGarvey Obituary

LORAIN– Margaret Starr (Paton) McGarvey age 76 died on October 9, 2010 at Lorain.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Her family lived in Claridon and Richmond Heights, Ohio and in Indianapolis, Indiana before moving to Lorain. She graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis and received her Bachelor's degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. She got a Master's Degree in education at Kent State University. She taught elementary school in Indianapolis, Indiana, Catskill, New York State and after moving to Lorain, Ohio, she taught 4th grade at Masson School. Later she tutored for 12 years in Lorain.
She was a member of First Congregational Church in Lorain and for many years was active there. She served on the Board of Christian Education, taught Sunday school; and served as Sunday School Superintendent. She started a Book Group, and a Bible Study Group. She also belonged to Ladies Lunch Club and the Lorain College Club.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, John; daughter, Beth McGarvey of Lorain; son, David McGarvey of Columbia, Maryland; two grandsons, Benjamin and Paul McGarvey of Columbia, Maryland, and one brother, Allan Paton of Bloomington, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents Allan and Florence (nee Starr) Paton.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 17 at 2:30 pm at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, corner of 4th and Washington, with Rev. Vickie McGaw and Rev. Jim Dietz officiating.
