Raymond Riegelsberger Obituary

Raymond A. Riegelsberger, 91, lifelong resident of Avon, passed away at Brookdale Westlake Village on Thursday, June 28, 2018.
He was born February 22, 1927 to the late Francis and Cecelia (nee Waldecker) Riegelsberger. Raymond graduated from Avon High School in 1944. Shortly after high school, he joined and served in the US Navy from 1945-1946. On June 18, 1949, he married his sweetheart, Miriam. They were married for 64 years.
He was the owner and president of Shepard Heating Co. of Lorain for 30 years. All the while, Raymond worked part-time with the Avon Police Department. After retiring from the Heating business, he continued his work at the Avon Police Department as a full-time patrolman for another 10 years and
cared for the family farm. He and Miriam tended to their large garden, always willing to share its bounty with friends and family.
Raymond loved hunting locally and on his property in West Virginia. He hunted deer and turkey. He also was an avid boater, who enjoyed fishing with his family on Lake Erie and on the annual family vacation to Canada. Raymond enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends. Mostly, he loved being with his family and spending time on his mountain retreat in Middleborne, West Virginia. He had a great love of food, and especially sweets. When it was strawberry season, he looked forward to strawberry shortcake, as well as cakes and pies, lovingly prepared by his late wife. When asked what was his favorite pie, he would answer, "Yes!"
Raymond was a master of all trades. He had the talent of building or fixing anything. Raymond was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church of Avon.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Miriam (nee Dellinger); sisters, Theresa Obran and Fran Rand. Dear father of Keith of Avon and Kathy Conn (Lester) of Avon Lake.
The family was fortunate to keep Raymond at home and on his beloved farm in his later years. The family wishes to give special thanks to his caregivers and family friend Chris Schue and everyone at Griswold Home Care for the exceptional and loving care they provided.
Family will receive friends Thursday, July 5th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon. Prayer service will be Friday, July 6th at 9:15 a.m. at the Funeral Home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church 2640 Stoney Ridge Rd., Avon. Father Thomas Cleaton will be officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens,
Avon.

I had the opportunity to work with Ray at the Avon Police Department. I thought the world of Ray and learned many things over the years. He will definitely be missed.

As you mourn the death of your loved one, be patient with yourself as you grieve. Take good care of one another and remember that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds at Psalm 147:3. Again, my deepest sympathies.
