Robert Atkinson Obituary
LORAIN - Robert Atkinson Sr., age 87, passed away on June 25, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. He was born on Nov. 5, 1925 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident.
Following high school, Robert began service to his county, becoming a member of the United States' Third Army's Red Ball Express. This was an enormous truck convoy system formed by Allied forces to supply forward-area combat units that moved through Europe after the breakout from D-Day beaches in Normandy, and he also served in combat during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon completing his WWII military service, Robert returned home to Lorain and began his 50 years of service with the US Steel Corp.
During the great depression, Robert boxed professionally to earn money and was a golden gloves recipient. He served as a 3rd Ward precinct committeeman for many years and also loved photography, Cleveland sports, and his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret; his children, Anthony, Santo, Terry, Cecilia, Mario (retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonial) and Robert (retired U.S. Army Major); brothers, Walter, Albert and Frederick; a sister, Linda; a combined total of 43 grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews of the Atkinson, Crisp, and Wootten families--whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Crisp Wilson; uncle, Lawrence Crisp; sister, Gloria Atkinson; cousin, Dorothy Searight; and daughter, Fanny Edwards.
The wake will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 from 10am to 12pm at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will immediately follow. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.

Today reflecting on the anniversary of your father (Robert) I felt compelled to say this prayer that I do for my father each year on his anniversary and I light a white candle for 24 hours beginning at sunset the night before in his honor. Its a Hebrew tradition to renew connections between us and our loved ones and elevating them in their celestial homes. The words by giving charity ( we are performing a positive physical deed in this world something the departed one can no longer do) I hope this gives you continuous comfort.
May the Lord remember the soul of my father, my teacher (Robert Atkinson) who has gone on to his world. Because I will without obligating myself with a vow donate charity for his sake. In this merit, may his soul be bound up in the bond of life with the souls of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah, and with the other righteous men and women who are in Gan Eden; and let us say Amen

To Ceci, Mario, and the Atkinson Family,
I am deeply sad at the loss of Mr. Atkinson who I'm known all my life and we are family. I will truly miss our road trips and all the family gathering we shared. One memory, I will always remember is Mr. Atkinson allowing us three minute on the phone because the phone was, for business calls and not personal calls and he never changed. He stayed consisted with that rule, for me and you Ceci. Know that God makes no mistakes and will wrap his loving arms around all of you and give you the strength to carry on. Mr. Atkinson now is taking pictures in heaven, and making more memories to share with us at a later time. My prayers and love to all of you.

Bob was a great man who loved his children and always made sure they did the right thing. He was always supportive of their activities and, of course, had his camera with him to record their pursuits for posterity.
