Thomas Daugherty Obituary

Thomas "Chief" Daugherty, age 73, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 23, 2018, following a lengthy illness.
Born October 18, 1944 in Vulcan, WV, Thomas lived in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in 1969.
He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Following the service, he moved to Lorain in 1969, where he has lived since.
Thomas retired from the Ford Avon Lake plant, where he worked as a fork lift operator for 35 years.
He was a member of the UAW Local 2000. Thomas was the kindest and carefree person who enjoyed laughing and making people laugh. He was known for always telling jokes.
Surviving are his two children; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters; and a brother.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl (nee Prinnier), in 2015; his parents; a granddaughter; and a sister.
The family has done a Native American ritual at his home.
In lieu of condolences, the family asks that you remember his name in prayer and knowing in your heart that he's home with his maker, Jesus Christ, and his wife, Cheryl.
The Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, handled the services.

Tom was one of the most unforgettable people I have ever known. We were friend's in school and later we reconnected at Ford in Avon Lake. He was a great friend and is an honor to have been able to call him my Friend. Long live his memory for All.

TJ I'm so very sorry for your loss! I've never met your dad but feel like I know him from all the memories you have shared over the last 4 years. I love how deeply your family loves one another, a trait you said you got from your dad! I know the days ahead are going to be difficult but you know in your heart that you are your dads pride & joy! Hold onto that to help you through the difficult days! Love you work brother!

Tom was so humble and he always made everyone laugh. Knowing Tom for over 20 years, he always had a new joke for me every time I saw him. Talking to him over the last few years of his life, he expressed tremendous joy over his daughter Laura taking care of his wife and them himself. When I visited Tom recently, she would always put a smile on his face. God Bless you Tom and Sherri. See you again soon Brother...

One of the best people I know. His largest point of pride was that his son would give him a kiss when he was separating, going home from work or whatever. He treasured hi relationships with friends and family more than anything in the world.
