Timothy Roger McDonnell

Timothy Roger McDonnell, 69, formerly of LaGrange, passed away in Lakeland, Florida on November 8, 2016, following a lengthy illness. He was born October 29, 1947 in Elyria, to Roger and Agnes McDonnell, who preceded him in death in 1986 and 1996.
Tim was a lifelong resident of Elyria and LaGrange, before moving to Florida in 2014. He graduated from Elyria Catholic High School, Class of 1965 and Lorain County Community College where he obtained degrees in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. He was an engineer for much of his career but in his earlier years he worked for the Railroad, the U.S. Steel Mill and the American Shipbuilding Company. He achieved lifelong membership as a certified manufacturing engineer by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
His hobbies included farming, gardening and wood working. He was known for his incredible wood working ability and shared his talent with family and friends. He crafted a variety of projects including cradles for his grandchildren, each one unique and beautiful. In his younger days, he was a proud Eagle Scout, volunteered as a firefighter, raised cows and sheep, and owned a goat dairy. He had a great sense of humor and was incredibly devoted to his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Diane McDonnell (nee Elgin); children, Kyle (Becky) McDonnell, Ryan McDonnell, Kathleen Frey and former son-in-law, Adam Frey, Tom (Jodi) McDonnell, Nicholas (Jennifer) Williamson, Bridgette (Brian) Wolfensperger, and Jenna (Josh) Campbell; twelve grandchildren, Morgan, Miranda: Kayler, Parker: Emma, Taylor and Henry: Owen and Lauren: Leah and Luke: and Maeve. He also leaves behind two sisters, Madalyn (Gabe) Torres and Diane (Steve) Kline, as well as nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 12:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 1:00 PM, Rev. Charles T. Diedrick, Pastor, officiating.
