Alice Koopman

1917 - 2016

Alice Mary Koopman, 99, of Pittsburg, passed away at 10:38 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Via Christi Villiage Nursing Home.
She was born January 4, 1917 at rural Pittsburg, Kansas, to Victor H. and Minnie (Wehmeyer) Hofmeister. She attended Stillwell and the Zion Lutheran Grade Schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School. She had been a resident of Pittsburg her entire life and a resident of Via Christi Village Nursing Home since September 2011.
On April 2, 1936, she was united in marriage to Arlo H. Koopman at Webb City, Missouri. They were married for 69 years, before he passed away on December 23, 2005.
Before her marriage, she worked at the Wool Worth store and also for the Dr. Revel family. After marriage, she became a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening, taking walks and visiting family and friends and attending church.
Membership was held in the Faith Lutheran Church of Pittsburg and she was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Marijane Koopman of Pittsburg; a sister, Mabel Hofmeister of Via Christi Village; and nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Orvel Hofmeister and an infant brother and two sisters, Sylvia Koopman and Agnes Hofmeister.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday (June 10) at the Faith Lutheran Church of Pittsburg with Pastor Aaron Schumann officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Pittsburg. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday to sign the register book. The family suggests memorials may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church.
