Deborah Pate Obituary

Deborah Louise Pate, 61, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:04 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital.
She was born January 24, 1954 at Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Marjorie (Brubeck) Pate.  She received bachelor's degree in education from Southwest Missouri State University.

Debbie was an art teacher for USD 250, teaching at the Pittsburg Middle School for 35 years. She loved teaching and she loved the children she taught. When she was home she loved to cook, garden and play with her dog Duncan. Debbie was very close to her family, she spent so many good times with her mother cooking, and shopping and just enjoying one another's company. Debbie loved to have fun and laugh and spent so many good times with her brother, sisters, and nieces and nephews. Her sweet spirit will be missed by all.

Survivors include a brother, John S. Pate and his wife, Barbara of Stockton, MO; five sisters, Beverly McMasters and her husband, Leland of Fair Play, MO, Shirley Colewell and her husband, Dave of Kansas City, MO, Beth Pitts of Kansas City, KS, Sherry Pate of Austin, TX, and Helen M. Bernard and her husband, Leo of Oklahoma City, OK; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Jack William Pate, a sister, Kathy Luse, and a good friend, David Richie.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (December 13) at Brenner Mortuary with Chaplain Adah Hutchcraft officiating.  Her wishes were to be cremated. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Stockton City Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Angels Among Us and/or the S.E.K. Humane Society.  These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. Fourth St., Pittsburg. Ms. Pate was an amazing teacher and a friend to her students. Her clothes and hair flowed like the decade (70's), in which, I was lucky enough to have her for my art teacher. Her smile and kindness was infectious. I often refer to her techniques for painting to my own students over the past 25 years. Her memory will be remembered for years to come. Sorry for your loss.

I was very sorry to hear of Ms. Pate's passing. She was one of the few teachers who leaves a legacy in those she taught. Tonight before I had heard of her passing, as we were putting up our Christmas tree and from out of the box I pulled an angel I had made in her class twenty years ago. That is how I will remember her. As an angel that will always reappear. God bless.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.. Ms. Pate has always been my favorite teacher. I grew up in a poor family and did not have much for supplies or "cool" clothes. She offered to let me help her get her classroom ready every year after summer breaks and paid me out of her own pocket so I could have those things. I loved the things she taught me. She will always hold a special place in my heart. Love you Ms. Pate

Debbie & I taught together at Lakeside Jr. High & then the middle school. She was my first teacher/friend in my first educational position & offered me much support & guidance. She was fun, supportive, talented, & a great teacher. My big regret is that I never told her how much I appreciated her reaching out to a scared first-year teacher & letting me know it would all be okay. Thank you Deb. Rest in peace.
