Donald Benso Obituary
Girard - Donald L. Benso, 76, of Girard, Kansas died Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Mercy Hospital at Joplin, Missouri.
Mr. Benso was born August 7, 1944 in Pittsburg, Kansas the son of Mike and Sadie Saia Benso. Don was a lineman and electrician for various companies in the area. He also worked as a refrigeration mechanic in the Kansas City area. He was a master electrician and a master mechanic. He lived in the Franklin and Girard area most of his life. He was raised in Franklin and attended Franklin Elementary School. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Pittsburg in 1962. He later attended the Technical Education Center at Pittsburg State University and Ft. Scott Junior College. He served as a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam War. He married Norma Mahnken on December 23, 1966 at Pittsburg, Kansas. Mrs. Benso survives at the home. His hobbies were raising bird dogs, field trialing, hunting, raising quail and game birds, racing, watching sprint car racing, but most of all loved spending time with his beautiful family which was important to him. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the UA Local #533 and the National Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Survivors include his wife Norma of the home, two daughters, Cheryl (Steve) Woodson of Parkville, Missouri and Carla (Scott) Kriston of Highland Village, Texas, a son, Mike (Joni) Benso of Girard, and three grandchildren, Zachary and Natalie Benso, and Alex Kriston, a sister, Marsha (Chuck) Hutton of Pittsburg, and a brother, Kenny (Linda) Benso of Village of Loch Lloyd, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kansas with Father Robert McElwee officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. Tuesday at the Bedene Funeral Home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the P.S.U. Electrical Technology Fund or the U.S.D. #248 Ag Education Fund. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
