Sharon Holsinger Obituary

Sharon Kay (Dugan) Holsinger of Pittsburg died at her home on Sunday, April 3, 2016 following a short illness.

Mrs. Holsinger was born on November 3, 1938 in Oswego, KS, the daughter of Robert F. and Ollene A. (Larsen) Dugan. She attended and graduated from Oswego High School where she was active in several extracurricular activities. She received her bachelor's degree in business from Kansas State College of Pittsburg, now Pittsburg State University, in 1960. She was a member of Theta Sigma Upsilon which merged with Alpha Gamma Delta sorority while she was serving as chapter president.

On April 16, 1960, Kay Dugan married Donald Holsinger at the First United Methodist Church in Oswego, KS. Following graduation, she worked for Hallmark Cards in Lawrence, KS. She then was employed by Spencer Chemical (later Gulf Chemical) as an executive secretary in Kansas City, MO, until 1964 when her husband graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. During the following seven years, she lived in several communities while her husband completed his medical education and active military service. In 1971, she and her family moved to Pittsburg, KS, where she continued to make her home until the time of her death.

After her three children were raised, she became the office manager of her husband's medical clinic until their retirement. Mrs. Holsinger was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and Chapter IO of PEO, past member of the Crawford County Medical Alliance, PSU Alumni Association, and PSU Foundation, and past board member of Pittsburg Community United Way and Pittsburg Public Library.

Mrs. Holsinger is survived by her husband, Dr. Don Holsinger; daughter, Gretchen Kunkel (Greg) and their children, Bethany, Alexandra and Katie of Overland Park, KS; son, Philip Holsinger (Dr. Jill) and their children, Olivia, Owen and Ella of Duluth, MN; and daughter, Kristina Taylor (Dr. John) and their children, Madeleine and Samantha of Pittsburg, KS. She is also survived by a sister, Beverly Burke (James) of LaCygne, KS and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and a brother, Donald Dugan.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday (April 8) at the First United Methodist Church, 415 N. Pine, Pittsburg with Rev. Mark Chambers officiating. A family visitation will be held in the church parlor following the memorial service. Private inurnment services will be held at PSU Timmons Chapel Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Wesley House food pantry, which may be left with the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS . Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
