Harriet B. Koetz
Born: February 1, 1924
Died: March 21, 2025
Harriet B. Koetz, 101, of Seneca, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, at The Arc in Streator.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Harriet was born February 1, 1924, in Streator, to Axel and Bertha (Oberg) Swanson, both who were Swedish immigrants. On February 2, 1946, she married Walter Koetz of Streator at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Harriet was raised in the Kinsman and Streator area. She worked at the Seneca Shipyards and local nursing home for many years. Walter and Harriet farmed for their whole lives in the Ransom Seneca area, while raising their six children. She was a member of Our Savior's Church in Seneca. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
She always loved her garden, cooking and baking for her family. She loved her family dearly and was always there when anyone needed her. Her table was always open to everyone. She was able to live at home until the last two months of her life, which meant so much to her. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother.
Harriet is survived by six children, Dee Simpson of Englewood, FL, Robert (Janice) Koetz of Marseilles, James Koetz of Oswego, Denise (Rick) Andreatta of Seneca, Don (Julie) Koetz, and Larry (Laurie) Koetz; thirteen grandchildren, Tracy Harris, Trent Simpson, Chelsea Long, Jeff Koetz, Ryan Koetz, Matt, Nick and Jaclyn Andreatta, Allisa Koetz, Amber Johnson, Adam Koetz, Haley Koetz, and Travis Koetz; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Fellows of Streator; and one sister-in-law, Jean Swanson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; her grandson, Kevin Koetz; one son-in-law, Doug Simpson; her sister, Shelby Tobias; and her three brothers, Helmar, Kenneth, and Gerald Swanson.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Cathy, her caregiver.
